HOW IT WORKS

The Helmholtz Resonator

Vertical slots act as Helmholtz openings — sound enters the cavity behind, gets absorbed by the fleece and cavity insulation, instead of reflecting back into the room.

Engineered vertical section drawing for wall installation: leveling layer, light steel keel, air cavity, fiberglass wool, plywood substrate, slotted wood acoustic panel, skirting and base board

  • 100 mm vertical light steel keel @ 600 mm o.c.
  • 50 mm air cavity — acts as low-freq absorber
  • 50 mm fiberglass wool — close to the absorbing board
  • 12 × 50 mm fireproof plywood @ 400 mm

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Quick Answers

What's the difference between Slotted and Grooved?
Slotted panels have vertical slits that pass through the face into the cavity behind — sound enters and is absorbed by the fleece and cavity material. Grooved panels have V-shaped grooves cut only into the face — more decorative with milder absorption. Slotted suits studios and auditoriums; grooved suits offices and hotels.
What NRC do the panels achieve?
Up to NRC 0.90 measured per ASTM C423. Actual value depends on slot density, cavity depth and whether mineral wool is added inside.
What thickness and substrate options?
Standard thickness 16 mm. Substrate options: Black MDF (fire-rated), Red MDF (fire-rated), Standard MDF, and MGO board (Magnesium Oxide) for the highest fire performance.
What wood and finish options?
All wood options on request — natural veneers (Oak / Walnut / Maple / Beech / Wenge / Ash), melamine in multiple colours, painted, or raw for site finish.
Are the panels fire rated?
Yes — with fire-rated substrate and appropriate finish: B-s1, d0 (EN 13501-1) standard. With MGO board: A2-s1, d0 achievable where the project requires it.
How are they installed?
Two main methods: (1) direct adhesive on solid walls, (2) framework + hidden clips with a 50 mm cavity behind the panels (filled with mineral wool for added low-frequency absorption). Suspended ceiling systems also available.
Is the black fleece behind the slots visible?
Yes — this is an intentional visual feature of Slotted. The black fleece creates contrast against light wood and gives a modern technical look. If you want to hide the fleece, choose a darker finish or go with Grooved instead.
Can I request a sample before ordering?
Yes — contact us via WhatsApp or phone and we will send a sample of the chosen pattern and finish so you can assess texture and colour before committing.
