Sound absorption materials convert incident acoustic energy into low-grade heat. They are distinct from soundproofing (which blocks transmission between rooms) and from diffusion (which scatters reflections). Absorption is measured by α per octave band, summarised by the NRC single number rating (ASTM C423), and classified A–E by the weighted αw (ISO 11654).

How to Read Absorption Ratings (NRC)

NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) is a single-number rating from 0.00 to 1.00 averaging absorption (α) across the 250, 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz octave bands. A panel with NRC 0.90 absorbs about 90% of mid-frequency sound energy that strikes it. Use NRC to compare materials quickly; use per-band α for design-grade calculations.

NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) averages absorption across 250–2000 Hz on a 0.00–1.00 scale. NRC 0.70+ is considered effective for general room acoustic treatment; thick fabric panels and baffles can reach 0.90–0.95.
Q02 How much wall coverage do I need to fix office echo? +
Typical office and meeting rooms need roughly 25–35% of hard-surface area treated with absorption (walls + ceiling combined). Highly reverberant spaces or large open offices may need more. We recommend coverage based on RT60 measurement or room model.
Q03 What's the difference between fabric, PET, and foam panels? +
Fabric panels offer the widest design flexibility and highest absorption when manufactured at 50–100 mm thickness. PET panels are 100% recycled polyester — cleanable, eco-friendly, and ideal for schools and clinics. Foam panels are budget-friendly and popular for studios and small treatments, but are typically not used as decorative finishes in commercial interiors.

Fire-rated options are available across most of our absorption product families, subject to the selected material specification and approved certification documentation. Request the data sheet and fire-test certificate for the specific product version you intend to use.

Yes. PET panels are available in 67 YAMSIS colors and 50+ patterns. Fabric panels can be wrapped in hundreds of fabric references. Custom CNC shapes, geometric layouts, and printed graphics are available on request.
Q06 What is the difference between α, NRC, and αw? +
α (alpha) is the absorption coefficient at one specific frequency or octave band — a number between 0 (fully reflective) and 1 (fully absorbent). NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient, ASTM C423) is the arithmetic average of α at 250, 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz — a quick single-number rating. αw (weighted absorption coefficient, ISO 11654) is a more rigorous single-number rating fitted to a European reference curve, paired with shape indicators (L, M, H) when the spectrum is uneven. αw also produces the Class A–E rating used in European projects.

RT60 is the time (in seconds) for sound to decay by 60 dB after the source stops — measured per ISO 3382. We measure RT60 on-site before and after installation and tune coverage to your target.
