What Are Acoustic Door Seals?

Two parts: perimeter seals (D-profile or P-profile EPDM strips that compress when the door closes — fitted to the door frame on the top and both sides) and automatic drop-down threshold seals (concealed inside a routed slot in the bottom edge of the door — a spring drops a sealing bar onto the floor only when the door closes). Together they eliminate every air gap, which means every sound leak.

Seal the Frame

EPDM perimeter strip compresses when the door closes — closes top and side gaps.

Drop the Threshold

Spring-loaded threshold drops automatically when door closes — seals the 8–20 mm bottom gap.

Frequently Asked Questions

My door is already installed — can I retro-fit?

Yes. Perimeter seals come in self-adhesive form for fast retro-fit, or screw-fix for permanent. Drop-down thresholds need a router cut in the door bottom — most contractors do this on-site in 20 minutes per door.

What's the difference between a sweep and a drop-down?

A sweep is a fixed brush or rubber strip that drags on the floor — wears the floor, makes noise opening, and only seals ~50% of the gap. A drop-down only contacts the floor when the door closes — no drag, no wear, full seal. We strongly recommend drop-downs for acoustic projects.

Do I need both perimeter and threshold?

Yes — for acoustic performance you must close all 4 gaps (top + 2 sides + bottom). Doing only 3 of 4 cuts your STC restoration to 50–60% of what it could be.

Will it work on a wooden door?

Yes. Both seal types work on wood, steel and aluminium doors. The threshold seal needs at least 22 mm of door bottom thickness to accommodate the routed slot.

How tight is the door close after fitting?

Adjustable. The threshold drop is set so the door closes with normal force — not a slam. Perimeter seals compress 30–50% at closed position which is the standard tightness.
