— MATERIAL & CONSTRUCTION —

Fabric Finish and Acoustic Core

All shapes use the same acoustic core system and the same fabric finish. Only shape, dimensions, and thickness change.

  • Acoustic transparent fabric finish
  • High-performance sound-absorbing core
  • Internal frame or edge construction for durability
  • Multiple architectural fabric colours
  • Custom colour selection available
  • Concealed suspension fittings
  • Straight or custom-shaped edges

— ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE —

Acoustic Performance

Fabric ceiling baffles provide broadband sound absorption. Absorption values (NRC, αw) depend on thickness, orientation, spacing, ceiling void depth, and the total coverage installed.

  • Higher thickness (50 mm) improves low-mid frequency absorption
  • Both faces are exposed to the sound field, increasing the available absorptive surface compared with a wall-mounted panel of the same visible face area
  • Larger ceiling void depth improves absorption at lower frequencies
  • Coverage percentage of the ceiling directly affects reverberation reduction

The final acoustic performance depends on the selected thickness, product shape, installed quantity, spacing, suspension height, room volume, and existing surface finishes. We publish specific NRC/αw values only when backed by verified test reports for the exact configuration.

— FIRE PERFORMANCE —

Fire Performance

Selected fabric options are available with EN 13501-1 fire classifications. The fire rating of the complete assembled baffle system should be confirmed based on the selected construction and applicable test documentation.

— SUSPENSION OPTIONS —

Suspension Options

  • Adjustable aircraft cables: standard vertical suspension
  • Carrier rail suspension: linear rows and grid patterns
  • Threaded rod suspension: heavier assemblies and horizontal clouds
  • Custom support frame: architectural feature ceilings
  • Multi-point suspension: circular and horizontal shapes

Linear and wave baffles are normally suspended vertically. Circular, square, and rectangular elements may be suspended horizontally. Suspension height can be adjusted per ceiling design. Final suspension depends on shape, weight, ceiling structure, and approved shop drawing.

— INSTALLATION —

Direction & Recommended Spacing

Recommended clear spacing between linear baffles is approximately 200–250 mm for standard high-performance layouts. Center-to-center spacing varies depending on baffle thickness and project layout — confirmed per approved shop drawing.

— FAQ —

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a fabric baffle and a fabric ceiling cloud?

Baffles are suspended vertically (edge-on to the ceiling) while clouds/rafts are suspended horizontally (face-parallel to the ceiling). Both use the same fabric-wrapped acoustic core; the orientation changes coverage and visual effect.

Read: Ceiling Clouds in Commercial Spaces
Are all shapes manufactured using the same acoustic material?

Yes. All Yamamah fabric ceiling elements share the same acoustic core system and the same fabric finish. Only the shape, size, thickness, and suspension change per project requirement.

What thickness options are available?

Standard thicknesses are 25 mm and 50 mm. Custom thicknesses may be reviewed on request based on project acoustic targets.

Can the size and shape be customized?

Yes. Any shape from a vector file can be manufactured subject to structural and acoustic review. Custom sizes are subject to manufacturing feasibility.

Read: How to Choose the Right Acoustic Panels — 5-Step Framework
How are the baffles suspended?

Adjustable aircraft cables are the standard suspension. Carrier rails, threaded rods, or custom support frames are used for heavier layouts, circular elements, or horizontal installations.

Can circular and square elements be installed horizontally?

Yes. Circular, square, and rectangular fabric ceiling elements can be suspended horizontally as clouds/rafts, or vertically as baffles, depending on the acoustic and design intent.

How is the required quantity calculated?

Quantity depends on room volume, target reverberation time, ceiling coverage percentage, and shape selection. Our engineering team calculates the layout and BOQ from your drawings and acoustic target.

What spacing is recommended between the baffles?

Recommended clear spacing between linear baffles is approximately 200–250 mm for standard high-performance layouts. Center-to-center spacing varies depending on baffle thickness and project layout. Circular, square, and rectangular elements are arranged to reach a target ceiling coverage rather than by fixed spacing.

Read: Acoustic Panel Placement Guide
Can fabric colours be selected for each project?

Yes. 67 selected standard colours are available, with additional colours from selected Camira collections available upon request. Custom fabric orders can also be arranged for large or brand-specific projects.

Are shop drawings available before production?

Yes. Shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals are prepared and issued for consultant approval before manufacturing.

Can different shapes be combined in one ceiling?

Yes. Mixing linear, circular, and horizontal elements is a common design pattern for feature ceilings, restaurants, and open workspaces.

How does the ceiling void affect acoustic performance?

The air gap between the baffle and the structural ceiling improves low-frequency absorption. Larger voids typically improve performance at bass frequencies but the exact gain depends on the whole assembly.
