Mass LoadedVinyl Barrierfor Acoustic Insulation

Soundproofing / Noise Isolation
Used for Noise isolation · sound transmission control between spaces
Installation area Walls / ceilings / floors
Main metric STC / Rw
Important: This product reduces sound transmission between spaces. It does not reduce echo inside a room — combine with absorption materials for full acoustic treatment.

A bitumen-free, high-density polymer acoustic membrane — engineered to block airborne sound transmission through walls, ceilings, floors and ductwork. Yamamah Smart is your authorized TECSOUND distributor in Saudi Arabia, delivering authentic product with full acoustic design support.

— THE MATERIAL —

What is Mass Loaded Vinyl?

A thin, flexible, very-high-density acoustic membrane engineered to block airborne sound transmission across walls, ceilings, floors and partitions. Unlike traditional soundproofing that relies on thickness to reduce noise, MLV uses its high mass per unit area to create an effective acoustic barrier with a compact thickness profile.

🧪

Bitumen-Free Polymer

Synthetic polymer membrane — fully bitumen-free. Safe for all indoor environments, compatible with modern health & safety standards.

High Mass Density

About 2,010 kg/m³ — maximum sound blocking with minimum thickness. Inverse-square law makes mass the most efficient acoustic barrier.

🌀

Flexible & Workable

>500% elongation at break — wraps around curves, corners and irregular surfaces. Easy to cut and fit on site.

🔥

B-s2,d0 Fire Rated

Tested to UNE-EN 13501-1 — limited contribution to fire, low smoke, no flaming droplets. Cleared for commercial use.

— APPLICATIONS —

Where to use mass loaded vinyl

From residential walls to industrial machine enclosures — MLV is one of the most versatile sound-blocking materials available.

🏠

Residential Walls

Between shared rooms and apartments — meet STC code requirements without thick stud walls.

🏨

Hotel Party Walls

Between guest rooms — protect speech privacy and HVAC noise across thin partitions.

🏥

Hospitals & Clinics

Patient room confidentiality, treatment area privacy, mechanical isolation.

🎙

Recording Studios

Critical sound isolation between live rooms, control rooms, and the outside world.

🎬

Home Cinemas

Low-frequency sound containment — keep movie audio in, neighbor noise out.

Machine Rooms

Wrap generators, pumps, compressors and HVAC equipment to cut radiated noise at source.

🚗

Vehicle Interiors

Automotive and industrial cabin noise reduction — applied behind trim panels.

🌬

Ductwork Lagging

Wrap HVAC ductwork to prevent break-out and cross-talk noise between rooms.

— INSTALLATION —

Four steps to a complete acoustic seal

MLV is forgiving and contractor-friendly — but airtight seams are critical. Every gap is an acoustic leak.

1

Prepare Substrate

Clean, flat, dry. Mark layout. Cut MLV with a sharp blade — score and snap, or scissors for thin grades.

2

Adhere or Fix Mechanically

Apply acoustic adhesive or fix with mechanical fasteners (washers + screws). Press firmly to remove air pockets.

3

Overlap & Seal Joints

Overlap seams by ≥50 mm and seal with acoustic sealant. Tape seams for additional security. No gaps — every leak halves the performance.

4

Cover with Finish

Apply drywall, plywood, or finish layer over the MLV. The mass works best as part of a damped, decoupled wall assembly.

Pro tip: Combine MLV with absorption insulation (mineral wool / fiberglass) and resilient channels for a multi-layer system — significantly higher STC than any single material alone.

— FREQUENTLY ASKED —

Quick answers about TECSOUND MLV

What is the difference between TECSOUND 35, 50, 70 and 100?

The numbers indicate the approximate surface mass — TECSOUND 35 ≈ 3.5 kg/m² · TECSOUND 100 ≈ 10 kg/m². Sound reduction (Rw) climbs from 23 dB to 32 dB. Heavier grades give more isolation but require stronger mechanical fixing. Our acoustic team helps you choose the right grade for your target and structural budget.

Is mass loaded vinyl safe for indoor use?

Yes. TECSOUND MLV is completely bitumen-free and made from non-toxic polymers. It is approved for homes, schools, hospitals and food-grade facilities. No harmful off-gassing after installation.

How is mass loaded vinyl installed?

Adhered or mechanically fixed to the substrate. Can be applied directly to walls, floors and ceilings, or sandwiched between drywall / plywood layers. The flexible membrane wraps around pipes and ductwork. Overlap and seal all seams with acoustic sealant — every gap is an acoustic leak.

Can MLV be combined with other acoustic materials?

Absolutely — this is in fact the best practice. Combine with mineral wool / fiberglass absorption and resilient channels to target both airborne and impact sound. The multi-layer approach significantly improves overall STC and IIC compared to any single material.

Where in Saudi Arabia does Yamamah Smart supply MLV?
