— TECHNICAL DEFINITION —

What are perforated metal baffles?

Perforated metal acoustic baffles are vertically suspended ceiling baffles made from perforated aluminum, galvanized steel, or stainless steel, with acoustic fleece or absorptive infill behind the perforated face. They are designed for echo reduction and reverberation control.

Important — the metal face itself is not the primary absorber. Sound absorption is achieved through the perforations, acoustic fleece or infill, internal cavity, and exposed baffle surfaces.

— SYSTEM COMPONENTS —

Metal Baffle System Components

Perforated metal baffles should be treated as a complete ceiling system, including the baffle body, carrying channel, suspension accessories, end caps, brackets, and acoustic backing or infill where required.

Perforated Metal Baffle

Aluminum, galvanized steel, or stainless steel baffle body with the selected perforation pattern.

End Cap

Closes the open ends of the baffle for a clean, finished edge.

Carrying Channel

Top rail that carries the baffles and ties the system to the ceiling structure.

Connecting Splice

Joins two carrying channels for continuous spans across longer runs.

Hanging Rod / Steel Cable

Suspension element that drops the carrying channel from the slab.

Closing Strip

Finishing strip that hides edges and tidies the perimeter of the baffle field.

C-Channel Bracket

Wall or slab bracket that anchors the carrying channel at room boundaries.

Acoustic Fleece / Infill

Black fleece or absorptive core behind perforations to drive sound absorption.

— PERFORATION —

Perforation Patterns

The perforation pattern controls both the visual rhythm of the ceiling and the available open area for sound absorption.

Round Perforation

Classic uniform circular holes — the most common pattern with broad supplier availability.

Slot Perforation

Elongated slot openings — strong linear visual rhythm and adjustable directional character.

Micro-Perforation

Very small dense perforations — near-solid appearance from a distance with high open-area absorption potential.

Custom Pattern

Bespoke patterns, logos, or graphic perforations for branded architectural ceilings.

Open area and perforation pattern should be selected according to acoustic target, visual design, cleaning requirements, fire requirements, and supplier test reports.

— INFILL OPTIONS —

Infill & Backing Options

The backing and infill behind the perforated face drive how much sound is absorbed by the baffle system.

Perforated metal acoustic baffle without infill — silver powder-coated profile with empty internal cavity, Yamamah Smart

Without Infill

For projects where the visual metal baffle form, durability, and ceiling rhythm are the main requirements.

Perforated metal acoustic baffle with black acoustic fleece backing — white powder-coated profile, Yamamah Smart

With Acoustic Fleece

A practical option for improved absorption, dark backing appearance, and cleaner visual finish behind perforations.

Perforated metal acoustic baffle with black acoustic fleece and yellow mineral wool infill — cream powder-coated profile, Yamamah Smart

With Acoustic Fleece + Infill

Recommended for stronger acoustic performance where reverberation control is a key requirement.

Final acoustic performance depends on perforation pattern, open area, cavity depth, backing, infill, baffle spacing, room volume, and certified supplier test reports.

— WHEN TO CHOOSE —

When to choose metal baffles

Perforated metal baffles are recommended when durability, cleanability, fire performance, impact resistance, corrosion resistance, and industrial architectural appearance are important. For softer interiors, PET or fabric baffles may be preferred.
